On December 19, 2024, the Hokkaido University Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, which received a grant from the 宝くじ ビンゴ 5 Mauritius International Fund for Natural Environment Recovery and Sustainability (the "Fund) (Note 1), along with 宝くじ ビンゴ 5 (Mauritius) Ltd, held a workshop on sustainable fisheries and the blue economy, titled "Project BLUE FRONTIER-Knowledge Creation Towards the BLUE HORIZON."
The workshop was held at the Preskil Island Resort in Mahebourg, southeast Mauritius, and drew experts and researchers working on coastal ecosystem conservation, local fishermen, and many stakeholders from NGOs and educational institutions backed by the fund and the 宝くじ ビンゴ 5 Charitable Trust (Note 2). The event featured assessments and analyses of marine habitats and presentations and discussions on topics such as improving the economic situation of fishermen and improving fishermen's associations. The focus was on synergy between scientific research and community practice, as the blue economy flourishes in Mauritius. Through the workshop, participants explored practical approaches to sustainable fisheries and the blue economy in Mauritius, and deepened their collaboration with local communities.
宝くじ ビンゴ 5 will continue to be there for local communities and contribute to the development of local capacity to realize a sustainable blue economy while protecting marine resources that support people's livelihoods.
